What is IFTTT and how is the service useful?
IFTTT is a web service that enables you to automate interactions between different social networks, applications, or smart home systems using simple rules. For example, you can set it up so that the lights in your room turn on automatically when you receive an email in Gmail.
IFTTT allows you to automate various actions on the internet by connecting different applications. For example, you can turn on the lights in your room when a stock reaches a certain value, add a line to a spreadsheet when a POST request is received on the server, automatically save images from a public webcam to Google Drive, send an email when you miss a call, lower the volume of your phone when connected to Wi-Fi, repost tweets from Twitter to Telegram, and automatically turn off the lights at sunrise. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination and the number of services that IFTTT supports.
Examples of using IFTTT scripts:
– Automatically add any Gmail email with a “ToDo” label to your Google Calendar as an event
– Send notes from apps like iAWriter and Simplenote in Dropbox to Evernote
– Automatically save Facebook status updates to Evernote or Google Calendar
– Automatically copy photos from Facebook where you are tagged to a separate album folder
– Save all your tweets from Twitter into a text file in Dropbox or a Google Spreadsheet
– Automatically repost your Facebook statuses on Twitter
– Automatically repost photos from Flickr to Twitter
IFTTT also allows you to track free audio files, e-books, and promotions on different sites and receive email notifications about them. For example, you can use IFTTT to receive email notifications about free tracks on iTunes, Amazon, and Last.FM.
